The planning is complete, you’re packed for your honeymoon, and your wedding dress is ready—your wedding day is just around the corner! Before you slip into your gown for photos and walk down the aisle, it’s crucial to unpack and air out your wedding dress the night before. Here’s why, according to our expert alterations team:
Wrinkles, Begone!
A few wrinkles might have formed during transit. To eliminate them, hang your dress high off the ground in a clean, safe place, unzip the garment bag, and remove the plastic. If your dress has a train, let it flow freely to release any wrinkles.
Steam Your Veil
Inside the garment bag, behind your dress, you’ll find your veil. Remove it from the bag to prevent wrinkles. If you have a steamer, give your veil a gentle steam and hang it in a safe place until you’re ready to wear it.
Review Your Bustle
After releasing the train from its hanger, review your bustle. Depending on the style you chose, you’ll have buttons and loops, ties, or a combination of both on the train. Practice with the person who will help you on your wedding day, likely the one who accompanied you to your fittings.
Final Steam for Your Train
Once you’ve reviewed the bustle, use your steamer to delicately steam your train. Let it rest on a clean, safe surface to keep it wrinkle-free until you walk down the aisle.
Optional: Switch Your Hanger
Our alterations team ensures your dress is hung on a sturdy steel hanger. While we recommend keeping it on this hanger until your wedding day, you can switch to a decorative hanger for memorable photos. Swap the hanger the morning of your wedding and get ready to say “I do.”
